Department of Cardiology at Ludwig-Maximilian University Hospital provides care for patients with conditions related to the heart. The most common diseases the department treats are coronary heart disease, heart failure, myocardial infarction and disturbance of heart rhythm (arrhythmias). Cardiological care is provided at both the Großhadern and Innenstadt buildings. The department holds seminars of health education like a seminar they held in November 2019 about how a person can protect themselves from sudden cardiac arrest.
The department has a research team that keeps it updated on the latest diagnostics, treatment methods and mechanism of diseases to guarantee the best care for the patients. Important research areas are atherosclerosis, platelet physiology, thrombosis and the role of immune cells in the development of some heart diseases.
Under the guidance of Prof. Dr. Med. Steffen Massberg, the department treats more than 5,500 inpatients every year with the use of advanced equipment by highly experienced professional doctors and nursing staff, all to guarantee optimal care for patients.
