Department of General and Visceral Surgery at Helios Hospital Munich West provides the surgical care required for patients with diseases of the abdominal cavity organs. The department has a goal of increasing the number of keyhole surgeries, since minimally invasive procedures are the future, and it's also focused on the treatment of inflammatory and neoplastic diseases of the stomach, liver, gall bladder, colon, and rectum. The medical team treats over 1,400 inpatients every year, under the leadership of Prof. med. Dr. Erich Bielesch, a member of PRIMO MEDICO, the network for medical specialists in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland, and also a member of the Leading Medicine Guide. The facility has over 170 patients with gall stones annually as it also has one of the highest rates of minimally invasive removal of the gall bladder in all of Munich. The institution has a Bowel Center certified by the German Cancer Society and a specialized station dedicated to the treatment of all types of hernias.
