Department of Gastroenterology

Department of Gastroenterology at Helios Hospital Munich West provides the medical care required for patients with diseases of the gastrointestinal tract as well as the liver and pancreas diseases. The department treats patients represented with vague abdominal pain, problems with bowel movements, or sudden weight loss, all of which could be signs of serious conditions. The gastroenterology unit is mainly concerned with the treatment of inflammatory and cancerous diseases of the esophagus, stomach, colon, and rectum while the liver unit focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of hepatitis, cirrhosis, fatty liver, and hepatocellular carcinoma. The same pattern goes for the pancreatic unit where benign and malignant pathologies are conservatively, endoscopically, and surgically treated. Under the leadership of Prof. Dr. med. Brigitte Mayinger, the medical team offers the full range of diagnostics and therapeutics for over 3,600 inpatients every year, including diagnostic reflection of the bile duct, endoscopic removal of gallstones, and tumors therapy, thanks to the close cooperation with the Department of General and Visceral Surgery and the Center for Minimally Invasive Surgery.
