Department of Nuclear Medicine at Helios Hospital Berlin-Buch offers cutting-edge radioactive diagnostics and therapeutics for the management of various diseases. The main therapeutic application where nuclear medicine showed great success is in the field of thyroid diseases. The high standard medical care offered by the department is delivered by qualified and experienced medical staff who performs scintigraphy and radioiodine therapy, which has a 99% success rate, for thyroid pathologies.
Under the guidance of Prof. Dr. Med. Stefan Dresel, the department treats over 1,080 inpatients every year, over 800 of which are thyroid patients. For other diseases, the full range of diagnostics is offered such as scintigraphy of the heart, lung, kidneys, brain, and lymph nodes. The facility also offers positron emission tomography (PET) which can detect many forms of cancer, such as lung cancer, lymphomas, and colon tumors. It also has the ability to diagnose certain neurological disorders, such as epilepsy and Parkinson’s disease.
