Department of Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Infectology at Helios Hospital Berlin-Buch provides care for patients with acute and chronic diseases of the digestive tract and organs as well as infectious diseases. The department offers the full spectrum of diagnostic and therapeutic measures for esophageal, stomach, intestinal, pancreas, liver, biliary tract, and infectious diseases on both an inpatient and outpatient basis. As an Endoscopy Center and a Laboratory for Functional Gastrointestinal Diagnostics, the facility has an impressive reputation in the treatment and management of inflammatory bowel diseases such as Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis.
Under the guidance of Prof. Dr. Med. Frank Kolligs, the staff treats over 2,800 inpatients every year, many of which suffer from colon cancer and gallstones. The department is exceptional in the treatment of liver diseases as it performs a modern therapy option called transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunting which allows the treatment of many diseases.

Professor Dr. med. Kolligs is a recognized expert in the areas of colon cancer and liver cancer in particular. He has worked scientifically for many years and is a member of the relevant guideline conferences of the specialist societies.
Professor Dr. med. Frank Kolligs comes from the Ruhr area. Most recently, he held a professorship at the University of Munich Hospital, where he worked as a senior physician and headed the interdisciplinary colon cancer center.
From 2006 to 2014 he was deputy chairman of the “Gastrointestinal Tumors” project group at the Munich Tumor Center of the Ludwig Maximilians University and the Technical University of Munich. Before that, he worked clinically and scientifically at the University of Marburg and the University of Michigan, USA.
Professor Dr. med. Kolligs has published numerous scientific papers, is co-editor of scientific journals, and is a member of several specialist societies, e.g. the German Society for Gastroenterology (DGVS) and the German Cancer Society (DKG).
