The main focuses of the department are the treatment of acute and chronic vascular diseases, diabetes type 1 and 2, osteoporosis, hormonal imbalance, and lipid metabolism disorders. The facility is a certified Center for Diabetology by the German Diabetes Society for its efforts and success in the management of diabetic patients and preventing complications. The department is also fully equipped with cutting-edge diagnostics and therapeutics for the management of hormonal disorders, especially in children.
Under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Med. Michael Ritter, the staff treats over 500 inpatients with vascular diseases annually. The remarkable medical team is made up of angiologists and specialized doctors that ensure optimal care for patients with calcification, occlusive arterial diseases, venous thrombosis, lymphedema, vasculitides, and chronic venous insufficiency.

After completing his training at the Großhadern Clinic in Munich, Prof. Dr. Michael Ritter became an internist, endocrinologist, and senior physician and completed his habilitation on a topic in the field of lipid metabolism. In 1998 he moved from Munich to the Ibbenbüren Clinic in North Rhine-Westphalia, where he worked as chief physician and medical director and headed an internal department with 150 beds. From 2011 to 2014 Professor Dr. med. Ritter works at the Endocrinological Center in Osnabrück.
