Department of Cardiac Surgery at HELIOS Heart Surgery Clinic Karlsruhe is certified by the German Cardiac Society to provide surgical care for patients with heart defects, arrhythmias, and acquired diseases. The department is divided into smaller specialized units to offer Transcatheter Aortic Implantation, Aortic Surgery, Heart Valve Replacement, Heart Rhythm Surgery, Bypass Surgery, and Artificial Heart Implantation. The department has cutting-edge equipment allowing for the execution of minimally invasive surgical techniques such as TAVI in the hybrid operating room. The general wards of 96 beds, as well as the five operating rooms run under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Med. Uwe Mehlhorn, one of the pioneering surgeons who are nationally and internationally recognized in Germany. The medical team performs the highest number of TAVI interventions, over 3,000 such operations in the last 12 years. The facility works in cooperation with the cardiologists at the Municipal Hospital Karlsruhe and Vidia Christian Clinics Karlsruhe to treat over 2,000 inpatients every year.
