Department of Pediatric Cardiology and Congenital Heart Defect at the German Heart Center Munich provides care for infants, children, and adolescents with congenital heart defects and acquired cardiovascular diseases. The department offers the highest level of medical care on both an inpatient and outpatient basis. The department has an extraordinary medical team full of specialist pediatricians, pediatric cardiologists and cardiologists to ensure patients are getting optimal care. The department is one of the top facilities of its kind in Germany and Europe. The department is fully equipped with the latest state-of-the-art equipment for both diagnostic and therapeutic purposes. It also offers social and psychological support for their patients.
Under the guidance of Prof. Dr. Med. Peter Ewert, the department performs about 800 diagnostic and 300 therapeutic catheter interventions annually. The department also treats over 2,000 inpatients and 6,000 outpatients every year. The department is in close cooperation with other departments of the German Heart Center Munich such as Departments of Cardiology and Pediatric Cardiac Surgery. The department takes pride in its Intensive Care Unit as it’s the largest pediatric cardiac intensive care unit in Germany with its 16 specialized and fully-equipped beds.
