Department of Hematology, Oncology, Haemostaseology, Rheumatology, and Infectiology (Medicine Clinic II)
The Department of Medicine Clinic II is divided into the main areas of Hematology, Oncology, Hemostasis / Hemophilia Center, Rheumatology and Infectiology /HIV. There is an intensive exchange between patient care and research in order to enable treatment according to the latest scientific findings, and international guidelines. Under the guidance of Prof. Dr. med. Hubert Serve, the department treats over 1,000 patients every year.
The Rheumatologic unit focuses on the treatment of inflammatory rheumatic system diseases. While the Hematological unit of the department offers the full range of diagnostics and treatment of malignant diseases of the hematopoietic system. The main focus of the unit is on allogeneic and haploidentical stem cell and bone marrow transplantation and the treatment of post-transplant complications. The research team of the unit focuses on the new treatment of acute leukemia. The unit of Infectiology has its own infection station, a special isolation ward, a general infectious and tropical medical outpatient clinic, a general HIV outpatient clinic with several specialist consultations and a scientific infectious laboratory and study center for outpatient and inpatient treatment of all infectious diseases.

- 2002 Board certification for Hematology and Oncology.
- 2002 Appointment as Professor for Internal Medicine at the University of Muenster.
- Since 2007 Chief Physician of the Department of Hematology, Oncology, Hemostaseology, Rheumatology, and Infectology at the University Hospital Frankfurt am Main.
- Since 2008 Scientific Director of the University Cancer Center Frankfurt (UCT).
- Since 2011 Regional Coordinator, Frankfurt/Mainz of the German Consortium for Translational Cancer Research (DKTK).
