Department of Nuclear Medicine

The Department of Nuclear Medicine at the Frankfurt University Hospital is well equipped for all diagnostic and treatment methods in the field of nuclear medicine. All common and many special examinations are available in this department. Over 8,000 patients are annually treated under the guidance of Prof. Dr. Frank Grünwald at the outpatient clinic of the department. Radioisotope examinations are also available at the department which involve the administration of some radioactively labeled substances into the body, to see the functioning of either organs or systems. The Department of Nuclear Medicine has both radio synovectomy (RSO) and radioimmunotherapy. The department was the first institution in Germany, which offered thyroid nodule denervation. Radioisotope therapy serves for the treatment of benign and malignant thyroid diseases, pain therapy for bone metastases and for the treatment of malignant tumors in childhood, e.g. neuroblastoma.
