The Department of Ophthalmology at the Frankfurt University Hospital offers innovative treatment based on the latest protocol for all ophthalmological diseases. Under the guidance of Univ.-Prof. Dr. Thomas Kohnen, FEBO more than 30,000 outpatients and inpatients are treated annually at the department. The entire spectrum of modern diagnostic and therapeutic procedures is used for diseases of the anterior and posterior segments of the eye, optic nerve, the lids, lacrimal ducts, and eye socket. Through intensive research work, innovative procedures for health care are developed in the department. In the education of students and young doctors, the department implements innovative concepts and a wide range of courses offered by qualified university teachers that are particularly geared towards individual support to ensures the training of future physicians at a high level. The main goal of the department is the preservation or restoration of the patient's vision for work and private life into old age because the quality of vision means the quality of life.
