Department of Obstetrics

The maternity clinic of the Charite university hospital is based in the campus Charite Mitte and in the Campus Virchow-Klinikum. At both locations, the Clinic for Obstetrics offers the entire spectrum of prenatal and birth medicine at the highest medical level. As a university Level I Perinatal Center, the Clinic for Obstetrics meets the requirements of caring for high-risk pregnancies and births. The Clinic is specialized on:

  • prenatal diagnosis and therapy
  • diabetes in pregnancy
  • pre-eclampsia
  • multiple births
  • infections during pregnancy
  • maternal disorders and pregnancy
  • addictions and pregnancy

The Department of Obstetrics works closely with neighboring disciplines, in particular, gynecology, neonatology, pediatric cardiology, pediatric surgery, pediatric neurosurgery, anesthesiology, oral and maxillofacial surgery, pediatrics and psychosomatics.

Offers for pregnant women

The diagnosis of pregnancy brings many questions and with the first child also some uncertainty with it. The birth physicians of the Charite Berlin actively support pregnant women not only by special consultations

but also by education about the methods of birth and courses before and after birth.

Obstetrics research at the Charite university hospital Berlin

As a university hospital, the researchers of obstetrics also deal with various issues of birth and perinatal medicine:

  • The WG Perinatal Programming carries out studies on the fetal and neonatal character of the long-term health or risks of illness of the child.
  • The AG imaging has its emphasis in prenatal ultrasound diagnostics.
  • The AG Preeclampsia is researching the pregnancy disorder preeclampsia.
  • The Public Health WG examines widespread pregnancy illnesses or complications such as preterm birth, gestational diabetes or addictions.
