Department of Infectiology and Pulmonology

The Department of Infectious Diseases and Pulmonology of the Charite Hospital specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of rare and complex infections and lung diseases as well as respiratory and intensive care medicine.

The clinic is a certified center for infectious diseases. Doctors at the clinic are experts in multidrug-resistant pathogens, pneumonia, tuberculosis, HIV / AIDS, infectious diseases of travelers, and many other diseases caused by bacteria or viruses.

Patients with lung diseases can be consulted and treated in the clinic. This is particularly specialized in obstructive pulmonary diseases such as asthma or COPD, restrictive lung diseases such as pulmonary fibrosis, diseases of the pulmonary vessels such as pulmonary hypertension, autoimmune diseases of the lung and bronchial carcinomas.

The lung tumor department of the clinic is the part of the Charite lung cancer center certified by the German Cancer Society.

For patients requiring ventilation or weaning, there is a certified Weaning Center. It consists of an interdisciplinary intensive care unit, two respiratory stations and the Charite Center for Outpatient Ventilation and Oxygen Therapy.

The interdisciplinary intensive care unit also specializes in severe infectious diseases, acute respiratory distress syndrome, and extracorporeal lung replacement procedures.
