The Department of Gastroenterology, Infectiology, and Rheumatology at the university hospital of Charite provide patients with professional and innovative medical care in the fields of gastroenterology, hepatology, and infectiology, based on the latest German research and protocol. The Department has vast experience in chronic inflammatory diseases of the gastrointestinal tract and of joints, such as ulcerative colitis, Crohn's disease or rheumatic diseases. The Department also specializes in chronic infections of the GI tract and GI tumors. In these areas, Charite's Department of Gastroenterology, Infectiology, and Rheumatology is counted among the leading clinical institutions in Germany.

Besides inpatient care, as a university hospital, it offers patients numerous specialized consultations on inflammatory bowel diseases, different tumor diseases, liver diseases, rheumatological diseases,infectious diseases, and nutritional disorders. For optimal care, the Department is closely interconnected with other departments of Charite and physicians in private practice. For example, it can refer to the central endoscopy department of Campus Benjamin Franklin, attributed to the clinic and the visceral Surgery of the Charite campus. The department also works in close cooperation with Charite Comprehensive Cancer Center.
